Many know that massage therapy is highly effective for pain relief, but some may not realize that it is an amazing preventive therapy, as well. Massage helps to build and maintain a well-functioning body (and mind!). It combats stress, and it helps keep our immune systems strong, which is priceless as we come up on cold and flu season!
Just as you eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and take your preferred supplements to boost your immune system and promote longevity, making frequent massage a part of your self-care regimen is a wise choice when committing to a wellness protocol. On the preventive track, regular massage can also help to reduce pain and muscular tension that may cause structural misalignment that often leads to injury. It can also lower heart rate, decrease blood pressure, and decrease cortisol (a stress-derived hormone that negatively impacts our immune system) while boosting the neurotransmitters that are most associated with our well-being.
